Getting Closer

Matilda seems to be getting closer & closer to walking. She has started to stand on her own for short periods of time (well, she usually doesn't know that she's standing on her own and once she realizes that she's not holding onto anything she'll quickly grab on to something or slowly lower herself down to the floor) and will walk while holding only one hand. Despite not being able to walk on her own, Mattie has gotten very good at climbing on top of things, like boxes and her small Lego table. The problem is that she hasn't figured out how to get down, so for now we just try to keep both of her feet on the ground!

New Year, New Teeth, New Words(?)

Matilda ended last year and began this year with one of her top teeth finally breaking through. It looks like the other three are ready to come through any day now, but it seems like that has been the case for a month now so who knows when they'll come in. For a while now Matilda has mastered pointing at objects and saying something that remarkably sounds like "What's that?" She's also masted "hi" and we thought she had "cat" down, but now we're not so sure because she hasn't said it lately when the cats are around. Also, according to Mattie, almost all animals say "moo" with the exception of sheep, which say "blah" (we figure that's close enough to baa).

Matilda's First Holidays

Overall, Mattie's first Christmas went very well. Despite a little stranger anxiety, she did very well visiting with friends and family. I was surprised that she really didn't get into the opening of her presents. I thought for sure she would love playing with the wrapping paper. And of course, like any good baby, she was more interested in an envelope than any of her toys the day after Christmas!
